February 2022 Renovations of the theatre were finally completed, and received final Council approval. The official opening on 12 February was full of dramatic fun and a chance for the community to gather once again.

We showed our first film on 18 March after Covid lockdowns and the theatre renovations.

Ruth and Rod Holmes got into the spirit of The Dressmaker shown in May by dressing in 1950's gear.

Kenton served food at the theatre on the night which added to the social occasion.

The Film Society's first monthly film night, Philomena, drew a good crowd. Based on a true story, the film is described as "a bitter-sweet comedy, a compelling narrative of human love and loss - a heart-breaking story that ultimately celebrates life."

A few tears were shed and Judy Dench, as usual, gives a convincing performance.

Official Launch
Friday, June 24, 2016  at  7.00 pm
Old Gazette Theatre, Dorrigo

Australian film Bran Nue Dae 2009 rated PG

More than 40 people braved the fierce winds and cold to attend the launch at the Old Gazette Theatre. Some had to chainsaw fallen trees to make it into town!

The theatre's heaters, free champagne and nibblies helped ward off the winter chill and the film warmed our spirits.

We are grateful to the generosity of local businesses who donated to the evening.
Thank you to IGA and SPAR Supermarkets, Dorrigo RSL and Dorrigo Cellars. The lucky seat prize - dinner for two donated by Dorrigo RSL - was won by Argnesh.

The launch was a public screening to introduce people to the Film Society. Many signed up for membership and will be eligible to attend our screening of Philomena on July 27.
